On September 5 there was a huge fire on the Waiawa Ridge. It came so close to the freeway that they had to shut down both sides of the H2. We wanted to show the kids from a safe distance why fire is so dangerous, so we found a good spot up by the houses in Waipio. As you can see the smoke was pretty thick so it was hard to get a good picture.

We saw the smoke but never went up to see the fire. Scary that it got so close to the freeway.
